After seeing a flood of fantastic Apple gear deals yesterday, many of which have Cupertino’s latest down at the lowest prices we have ever tracked, it seemed as though there likely wouldn’t be much left until the rest of the back to school action had lapsed. However, joining the seriously deep deals on M3 MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models, we also spotted a new all-time low Apple’s 512GB M4 iPad Pro in Space Black at $120 off alongside a huge $220 price drop on Beats Studio Pro over-ear headphones, official Apple iPhone 15 Silicone MagSafe Cases now up to 43% off, as well as some deals on MagSafe power banks, chargers, and more. more…...

Starting later this year, Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ will all become more expensive—as will the bundle that gives you all three of those services at a discounted rate. This round of price increases comes almost exactly a year after the last round and a year after Disney+ and Hulu began cracking down on password sharing. more…...

Apple Intelligence may come to EU after all…but only for Mac

Apple Intelligence is one of the biggest tentpoles of this fall’s new OS updates. The AI features in iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia will debut only for users with compatible devices set to U.S. English. However, there’s a big asterisk: users in the EU won’t get Apple Intelligence. No matter their device’s language setting, Apple has said it is blocking AI features in the EU until further notice. But there’s new evidence that indicates this exclusion won’t apply to all platforms. Instead, Apple Intelligence might be supported in the EU on the Mac only. more…...

macOS Sequoia adds weekly permission prompt for screenshot and screen recording apps

With macOS Sequoia this fall, using apps that need access to screen recording permissions will become a little bit more tedious. Apple is rolling out a change that will require you to give explicit permission on a weekly basis to these types of apps, and every time you reboot your Mac. Update, August 7, 2024: Apple hasn’t commented on this change, despite an uproar from Mac users. On Mastodon, Craig Hockenberry points to a potential solution: the Persistent Content Capture entitlement. But as he succinctly puts it: “The issue here is that Apple has provided no documentation or any other guidance on how to get this entitlement.” As far as I’m aware, this has also not been communicated to any developer who has proactively contacted Apple to ask about this pop-up in macOS Sonoma. ...
