iOS 18 is a huge release for iPhone users. It brings major updates to system apps like Photos, Messages, Notes, and more. Ming-Chi Kuo reports that Apple has once again delayed its plans to use new resin-coated copper (RCC) components in the iPhone. This change, which would save internal space for the iPhone, was originally rumored to occur with the iPhone 16, then delayed to the iPhone 17, and now delayed again. more…...

Beeline has become my favourite cycling navigation app

I remember being intrigued the first time I saw the Beeline Velo, with its unusual approach to navigation. Instead of showing you a moving map, it just displays an arrow pointing either directly to your destination, or to your next waypoint on a route. At the time, I was using a Garmin on my bicycles, but once I switched to mounting my iPhone on my handlebars, that created the question of which app to choose … more…...

Google Maps is showing Live Activities for more iPhone users, but still not everyone

Live Activities are a really cool, but underused feature of iOS. Google Maps first announced that the app would support Live Activities back in 2023, but it’s still not arrived. However, after some tests went live earlier this year, we’re seeing more users reporting the feature is live. more…...

AirPods Pro 2 get better every year, and that’s happening again with iOS 18

have been one of my best Apple buys ever. It’s hard to think of another Apple product that has only gotten better since purchase. iPhones, iPads, and Macs all get software updates each year, but their performance also tends to struggle a bit over time. New OS versions are designed to work best with the newest hardware. With AirPods Pro 2—a product I initially hesitated to buy—Apple has managed to only make them better and better each year. And that’s happening again with iOS 18. more…...

Apple Books in iOS 18 adds new feature designed to save you money

I may be in the minority, but Apple Books is one of my favorite apps on iPhone and iPad. I’ve never been a fan of the Kindle app, and though much of my reading these days happens in Libby with free library titles, I’ve always enjoyed Apple’s reading experience best. Fortunately, a new feature in iOS 18 means I should be able to do a lot more reading in Apple Books—buying more new books with less money spent. Here’s how iOS 18 makes that possible. more…...

iPhone 15 adoption continues to weaken compared to iPhone 14

Earlier this year we saw a report from CIRP with data showing the adoption of the iPhone 15 lineup in the US coming in below what Apple saw with the iPhone 14 devices. Now CIRP’s Q2 data has landed on the same metric and the iPhone 15 lineup demand has weakened again. more…...
