It is spring 2026, and that magical time of year when the sun is shining, the grass is growing, and flowers bloom. We are heading into near-perfect weather. Spring in the southern US generally brings plenty of showers. It will not be long until the brutal summer heat arrives, with 97 degrees, 90% humidity, full sun, and no rain in the forecast.

Winning against the brutal summer heat with your plants requires a strong foundation right now, and getting them plenty of water consistently is the absolute key to survival. I have generally opposed professionally installed irrigation systems due to the upkeep required. I have long used the Eve Aqua instead. It is a great way to quickly deploy a maintenance-free, Apple Home-enabled sprinkler system.

Apple’s iPhone 17 family includes my favorite hardware improvement in years

Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro is a big improvement over the more fussy iPhone 16 Pro. The vapor chamber and switching to aluminum from titanium both make a noticeable difference in sustained performance and improved thermal management. However, my favorite hardware improvement in years isn’t limited to the Pro series.

Apple hires veteran Google VP to lead AI product marketing

Apple has hired Google VP Lilian Rincon as its new vice president of Product Marketing for AI, the company tells me.

Apple says Rincon will lead product marketing and product management for its AI platforms, including Apple Intelligence and Siri. She will report directly to Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide marketing.

Apple products using Lockdown Mode have never been hacked, company confirms

iPhone security has been in the news this month as Apple patches known exploits. As promised, the company has alerted customers using iPhones on older software to update this week. Meanwhile, Apple states on-the-record that its Lockdown Mode has proven effective against hack attempts so far.

This Shortcut finds all your long videos to free up iPhone storage

Although I appreciate Apple’s desire to keep the stock Photos app as simple as possible to use, there are a number of surprising omissions.

One of them is that there’s no way to sort or filter videos by length or file size. That’s a pretty fundamental missing feature if you’re trying to free up iPhone storage by deleting some of your largest unwanted videos. Fortunately, there’s a Shortcut available to do the job …

For All Mankind season five now streaming on Apple TV

The fifth season of For All Mankind starts streaming today on Apple TV. The long-running space drama rolls out weekly, with new episodes dropping every Friday.

This marks the start of the penultimate season of the series, with production on the sixth and final season already underway. A spin-off show, called Star City, premieres at the end of May.
