Apple waited a long time to roll out Managed Apple IDs (now known as Managed Apple Accounts), and in the process, it created a problem that’s now deeply embedded in many organizations. For years, employees used personal Apple IDs with their work email addresses, because there wasn’t another option. IT teams had no visibility, no control, and no good way to untangle the mess. That all started to change a few years ago, but with WWDC 25 and the fall software updates, Apple is finally giving IT visibility into solving the problem.

Tailscale says Zero Trust is broken, and that might be a good thing

作者 Bradley C

Zero Trust has been a buzzword at every enterprise tech conference for years (only recently being replaced with AI), but Tailscale’s new State of Zero Trust 2025 report makes it clear that most organizations still have no idea what it means or how to do it. They surveyed 1,000 IT, security, and engineering leaders. Only 1% of those surveyed said they’re happy with their current access setup. That stat says a lot about the confusion in the marketplace.

One of the biggest upgrades in Apple’s 2025 fall releases for IT administrators is automating migrations between device management services. Before this update, switching platforms meant a lot of manual work, scripting, edge cases, and user disruption. With iOS 26 and macOS 26, Apple now supports direct migrations without wiping devices or losing app data. For IT teams that work with Apple, this is a huge win.

HomeKit Weekly: ThorBolt X1 might be the best value home key lock with built-in Thread support

作者 Bradley C

If you’re buying a HomeKit door lock in 2025 and it doesn’t support home key, keep moving. The tap to unlock experience with iPhone or Apple Watch is the feature that makes smart locks feel like a major upgrade over a physical key or even unlocking via the Home app. It’s fast, reliable, and once you get used to it, there’s no going back. The checks all the boxes for a great HomeKit lock and brings a few nice surprises for under $150k.

MagSafe Monday: Heading off to college in the fall? Here’s your best MagSafe gear

作者 Bradley C

I went off to college with a giant desktop computer, so I’m a little envious of the gear students have today. I still remember the flex of buying a 64MB USB flash drive just so I could move papers between computers (this was all pre-Google Docs). If you’re heading to campus this fall, here’s the best MagSafe gear to make your dorm setup cleaner, smarter, and less tangled.

Passkey technology has been a “gradually, then suddenly” shift in my daily life. I was hearing about it for years, then a few sites supported it, and now it’s more likely than not that a new site will support it. It’s one of the easiest security upgrades you can make at work and at home. With Apple’s upcoming fall release, it’s getting even better.

Apple @ Work: Macs have never been more expensive to repair, but never been more reliable

When it comes to enterprise hardware, reliability and repairability have always been in tension. In 2025, Macs are more expensive to repair (and more difficult) than ever before, thanks to tighter integration, solid-state components, and the steady move to custom silicon. In my experience, those repairs are happening far less often, so it begs the question: Is that a problem?

HomeKit Weekly: Eve Aqua is still the easiest way to automate outdoor watering

作者 Bradley C

It’s that time of year again. The sun is shining, grass is growing, and flowers are blooming. Summer weather is here. Here in the South, we’ll go from weeks of rain to stretches where it’s 95 degrees with no clouds in sight. I’ve never wanted to mess with a professionally installed irrigation system. Too much maintenance. That’s why I’ve continued using the to handle outdoor watering without digging a hole or hiring anyone to install it.

Addigy’s Prebuilt App Catalog is built to simplify managing macOS apps at scale

作者 Bradley C

Most enterprise apps used on macOS don’t come from the Mac App Store, so IT teams are stuck managing them manually. That includes tracking down the latest versions, packaging them up for deployment, setting up the required permissions, and making sure they’re installed and updated properly across every device. It’s a tedious process that doesn’t scale well, and it introduces security risk when apps fall behind on security updates. Addigy aims to solve this by adding a new Prebuilt App Catalog, which is now available to all its device management system customers.

Mosyle announces AccessMule to solve a major blind spot in SMB security

作者 Bradley C

One of the most common blind spots in small business security is access management for various company resources. Today’s IT teams are moving fast (and often understaffed), solving customer problems, and juggling shifting responsibilities as the business grows and evolves. Many SMBs also don’t have a dedicated IT team. They might be fixing things by committee or just trusting that vendors have these problems solved. Behind the scenes, there’s usually little visibility into who still has access to which tools, accounts, or SaaS apps.

Managing Macs, iPads, and iPhones at scale continues to get easier as Apple continually addresses pain points year after year, but some parts of the job still feel more tedious than they should. It’s not overly complicated but can be time-consuming, especially when dealing with macOS app permissions and privacy settings. That’s where iMazing’s Profile Editor has been a Swiss Army knife tool for IT admins. With version 2, it became an even more useful tool for Apple IT admins.

HomeKit Weekly: Aqara’s W100 Climate Sensor brings precision monitoring and smart control to your HomeKit setup

Last night, I had forgotten to take my upstairs off Eco mode, and I was shocked to see the difference in one of my son’s rooms based on my Nest Temperature Sensor. In my dream world, I’d have a variable system that could heat and cool rooms independently, but nevertheless, I didn’t buy bitcoin when it was $1, so I cannot afford that. With that being said, I do like having the knowledge of what’s happening in individual rooms and having that data in HomeKit. The new is a new way to do that with a built-in screen.

Dashlane adds support for FIDO2 security keys, making vault access truly phishing resistant

Coinbase reported a massive loss of customer data, and that has created a whole host of problems. The 2025 Parallels Cloud Survey recently went live, and buried in the data is a trend Apple should be paying attention to. According to the survey, 58% of enterprises are actively looking Desktop-as-a-Service (DaaS) or Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) options for their employees. Half of them plan to roll something out within the next six months. What’s driving this adoption? Companies want a secure, scalable way to give employees access to apps and data from anywhere. This is exactly the kind of enterprise shift that Apple could quietly build around.
